Kaiserslautern

Kaiserslautern Solar City

The Kaiserslautern Solar City project comprised 3 basic steps:

1. All public buildings were checked for their suitability for photovoltaic (PV) systems

2. Those responsible for implementation of the potential capacities identified in step 1 were advised

3. An evaluation of implementation was performed

In August 2011, 524 photovoltaic systems with a peak capacity of 13,025 kilowatts were installed. This corresponds to an annual reduction in CO2 by approximately 8,006 tons and energy supply for 2,930 households per year. Moreover, 397 solar systems covering a total of 3,452 m2 were registered.

The PV system installed on the roof of a community centre was provided as a "public solar power plant". PR initiatives include a free solar consulting service, complimentary brochures about solar directories, photovoltaic, solar thermal power and the public solar power plants, and a presentation on the city's homepage.
