The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, the State of Baden-Württemberg and the Climate Alliance Member City of Heidelberg will jointly host the International Conference on Climate Action – ICCA2019 – in Heidelberg on 22 and 23 May 2019. The conference will bring together leaders and decision-makers from countries, regions and cities as well as stakeholders and experts from around the world.

The ICCA also provides the framework for the international Climate Neighbourhoods event, sponsored by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and implemented by ifeu and Climate Alliance. Climate Neighbourhoods addresses actors from local government, civil society and companies that are actively involved in climate action.

Workshop Governance III: Collaborative planning for ambitious climate and energy policies
May 23, 11:00-12:30 | Organised by Climate Alliance, Climate Chance and Energy Cities

To put the vertical integration of climate action into practice, all levels of government and a wide range of actors need to take part in the design, planning and implementation of energy and climate policies. These collaborative processes are as important as the ambitions and targets they propose, or even more so: they determine whether all actors can be successfully mobilised and condition whether a broad consensus on the way to reach the objectives can be established. This session showcases the various ways in which local and regional actors, as well as civil society, are already working with other levels of government to reach common targets, and explore how this can be improved and used across other countries. Examples from Climate Alliance members and from the European Covenant of Mayors framework and how its signatories, coordinators and supporters cooperate across government levels will be highlighted along with success stories from other world regions.
